Hywel back behind the wheel
Flying Welshman Hywel Lloyd guns up his motor this week as the wraps come off on his Dallara Formula Three car with less then two months to go before the season starts.
Lloyd will become the first Welshman in over 20 years to compete in the F3 International Class when racing starts at Oulton Park in April.
But there’s plenty of work to do before then and the first official practice at Snetterton, in Norfolk, tomorrow (Tuesday) will bring all the teams – including Lloyd’s CF Racing – together.
The 23-year-old Welsh speaker from Corwen said: “I can’t wait. It’s been a long time while the testing ban was in force but we had plenty of work to do on the car.
“We’ve been putting the finishing touches to it with some new aerodynamic parts from the manufacturers in Italy.
“It will be great to see the car roll out of the transporter and to get it into the pit lane.”
Snetterton promises to give them an early indication of where they stand and Hywel said: “It’s an official practice so all the teams will be there and there will be unofficial lap times so it should give us an idea of where we are.
“We’ve all worked really hard over the winter and it’s been pretty flat out to get everything ready but I feel good and am looking forward to it.
“It’s all about trying to get the best out of the car – the first test is not critical although it would be good to be up with the pace but as long as I bring it back with all four wheels still on it will be OK.”
There are another two days of official practice scheduled for Oulton Park on March 10 and 11 but CF Racing will also fit in some work of their own at Silverstone and at Pembrey, near Llanelli.
