My name is Hywel Lloyd
I’m a Formula 3 racing driver.
Welcome to my CF Racing website. This is my first season of racing in the Formula 3 International Championship, having finished in 3rd place in the 2008 National Championship (my debut year in that championship). Formula 3 is a stepping stone towards my ultimate goal of racing in Formula 1. I’m aiming to follow in the footsteps of a local man named Tom Pryce, who was the last Welshman to race in F1 and the only one to win a race. You will see the rest of my racing career in the ‘career’ link on the left.
I’m very fortunate to be able to drive professionally and I owe a great deal to my family, friends and the sponsors who have brought me this far; please check them out from the links on this site. It is an incredibly expensive sport, mainly because everything has to be the best it can possibly be for each race e.g. the engine, the handling, the aerodynamics, the brakes and so on. The car has to be set up for each track and for different weather conditions, in an attempt to cut tenths of a second per lap; this is just how competitive it is. There are literally hundreds of adjustments/tweaks that can be performed on the car; get it wrong and the car performs like a donkey at the grand national, but get it right and the car performs like a supercharged cheetah on rails.
In order to compete effectively at this high level, I really need more sponsors. If you are in a position to help or if you know someone who may be interested please contact me using the ‘Support Hywel’ link or telephone me on 07740 835401. There is a sponsorship information pack which you can print off on the ‘Support Hywel’ page. This help can be provided in the form of money, goods or services; every bit of help will be gratefully received.
I now devote my life to racing, spending just about every waking moment doing something racing related. This includes:
- practice sessions- at any one of the UK’s racetracks or even abroad
- watching race footage – my own races and any other races on the TV or DVD
- racing games on the Playstation 3 – not completely accurate but a great help nevertheless
- physical training - at the local pool/gym, to maintain stamina and strength levels, but also to keep my weight down
- working on the car – I spend in excess of 40 hours per week developing the car; the car needs to be stripped down completely between races and many parts need replacing, updating and checking. I know that most drivers do not get involved in this side of things at all, but I feel it gives me an edge in the sense of knowing what is happening with the car when I’m driving it.
Once again I’d like to thank you for looking, please come back for regular updates on my progress in this 09 season; you’ll find these in the ‘News and Comments’ link. You can also follow my progress in my blog, which appears on the Daily Mirror’s website at www.mirror.co.uk/sport/motorsport/f3. You can see some of my videos at www.youtube.com, just put Hywel Lloyd in the search box; I will be adding to these throughout the year.
Yours in Racing
